Why do you need a Wedding Consultant ?
So……..What is a Wedding Consultant? Why do I need one?
When I started working in the catering business back in the early eighties nobody used a wedding planner or wedding consultant except for the very rich and elite. Regular people had, in fact, never even heard of such a person. But it wasn’t too many years later that we started hearing from most every bride that they had engaged the services of a wedding planner, coordinator or wedding consultant. Then out came Father of the Bride, a movie in 1991, with a wedding planner played by Martin Short and shortly after came J. Lo, Gucci shoes and all, and the term wedding planner became main stream. According to my research and personal experience as a caterer and a wedding coordinator approximately 65% of all brides will hire a wedding consultant or coordinator and this number is growing.
You have heard the term wedding planner, wedding consultant, wedding director and wedding coordinator. These are really all one in the same but the difference is what you hire this person to do. For example: you hire a person as your wedding consultant. A wedding consultant may help you asses the situation and determine a plan but they may not help execute the plan. They consult with you and that’s all. This may be the most economical for a budget bride that has friends and family members that can execute the plan on the big day. Well, you say, what if I need more help that that? Hire a wedding coordinator. The difference is that a wedding coordinator helps with all the same things the consultant does with the addition of managing all the details and tasks of the rehearsal and wedding day activities. Typically, most wedding consultants are also coordinators as well and are available for the service you need. I’ll discuss this in more detail tomorrow……………………
